Alexander Technique for Horse Riders Workshop
The Alexander Technique is usually taught on a one-to-one basis. During your lessons you will become more aware of how and where your body tension is being created. Through gentle hands on guidance and explanation you will learn ways to release this tension and rediscover balance, poise and ease of movement in everyday activities.
Through experience and observation you learn how your coordination works - how you create tension and how you can prevent or release it. This awareness enables you to change longstanding habits and function more efficiently.
Learning the Alexander Technique can help you prevent or alleviate conditions associated with undue tension or poor posture. These include:
Many difficulties with coordination and movement
Joint and muscle problems
Breathing disorders
Stress related conditions
It can enhance rehabilitation after operations, injury or illness and provide support during pregnancy.
It can improve management of stress and pain coping skills for chronic illness and disabilities.
The Alexander Technique offers you a method for life-long learning. You can use it to develop self-awareness and self-reliance.

The Alexander Technique improves poise, vitality and co-ordination, making breathing and speaking easier and movement becomes freer, lighter and more enjoyable.
By reducing tension, unlearning movement patterns and improving muscle control your riding aids will become clearer (and therefore the horse will be able to hear more clearly what you are asking) and your horse will be able to improve its self carriage as it will be allowed to relax and stretch its musculature.
This studio based workshop will include:
An Introduction to the Alexander Technique and it's benefits.
An introduction to 'semi-supine' and why we should do it for 20 minutes daily.
A demonstration of postural realignment on a saddle horse.
A series of activities, designed especially with the rider in mind, to increase body awareness and how much this knowledge influences the way your horse moves.
